Many of us are going for gold, and aiming at gold with a HUGE but attached to us.
Came across this gold medal I won for knife skills at college in a competition a few weeks before my mum died. I was petrified during the competition and convinced I wouldn’t win. The only reason I was there was because my tutors insisted I enter as they knew I could win. But I couldn’t see what they saw. I put in hours upon hours of training teaching myself how to chop correctly and riding myself of the bad habits
But I couldn’t see what they saw. I put in hours upon hours of training teaching myself how to chop correctly and riding myself of the bad habits of-of cutting I’d grown accustomed to as a child.

On the day of the comp, the Japanese girl beside me was chopping away like a pro.
All I could hear was chop, chop, chop, chop, chop. The guy who entered with me from my college was over confident and decided to start showing off his knife sharpening skills during the comp as well as his chopping skills. Meanwhile, I was too busy focussing on what I was doing and cutting myself while chopping to look up and see the show.
When they announced the results I was sat in a corner feeling like a complete failure.
3rd place went to the Japanese girl, so when I heard that I knew I was out of the running. My chopping was no where near as fast as her, she was good.
2nd place went to the guy from my college who was also very good, so after hearing that my heart sank even more.
When they called my name as the winner I was so engrossed in my losses they had to call me 3-4 times. I was totally shocked and amazed, could not believe it.
The moral of this story is simple. We all have the ability to fulfil what God has placed in us whether we see it or not. It does not matter how fast the other person is. Neither does it matter if others have time to stop by the way and relax, you keep going. But in your going, do it with confidence and not as I did with a lack of confidence, for like me some of us have won our battle but we are too busy focussing on our losses and can’t hear God calling out our name telling us to come forth for the victory is already yours.
One day I will receive a golden crown, this is just the dress rehearsal!!
